How to Apply Kinesiology Tape to Your Wrist (Step-by-Step With Video)

agosto 24, 2026 3 min read

A finished Proworks kinesiology tape wrist application

This is a two-strip wrist application filmed in our own studio, broken into clear steps using photographs taken from that same piece of footage — so what you read and what you watch match exactly. It is a self-applied technique: you can do the whole thing one-handed once the strips are cut.

Watch the wrist application

Original Proworks footage, about half a minute, no commentary. The written steps below carry the detail.

Filmed with Proworks kinesiology tape. Open the full video page.

Before you start

  • Cut your strips first — see how to cut kinesiology tape, and round every corner.
  • Clean, dry skin. No lotion or oil; the adhesive is pressure and heat activated.
  • Keep the wrist in a neutral, relaxed position as you lay the tape down.

Step 1 — Peel the backing

Split the backing near one end and draw it back as you work rather than removing it all at once. Handle the strip by the backing where you can — fingers on the adhesive is what stops it gripping.

Step 2 — Lay the first strip along the forearm

Laying the first strip of kinesiology tape along the back of the forearm

Anchor one end with no stretch at all, then lay the strip along the back of the forearm towards the wrist. Only the middle section carries any tension, and not much of it.

Step 3 — Add the second strip

The second strip goes across the wrist. Again, both ends go down with no stretch. Keep the wrist relaxed as you lay it — taping it while tensed makes the strip feel tight once you let go.

Step 4 — Smooth it around the wrist

Press the tape down along its whole length and rub along it a few times. The friction warms the adhesive, which is what makes it hold.

Step 5 — Finished

The finished application. Give it twenty to thirty minutes before showering or training so the adhesive has time to set properly.

Common questions

Can I do this by myself?

Yes. The wrist is one of the easier areas to tape single-handed, which is why we filmed it that way.

How tight should it feel?

It should not feel tight at all. If your fingers tingle, feel cold or change colour, take the tape off and reapply with less tension.

How long can I leave it on?

Proworks tape is water resistant and generally stays put through showers and training. Remove it if the skin underneath becomes irritated.

How do I take it off?

Peel it slowly in the direction of hair growth, ideally with the skin warm and damp. Pulling it off quickly is what causes most irritation.

Does the colour matter?

No. All fourteen Proworks colours are the same tape.

Where to go next

This tape is a support product, not medical advice. If your pain is severe, followed an injury, or is not settling, speak to a qualified healthcare professional. Do not apply tape to broken, irritated or infected skin.
